This series is a fictional podcast show in which writer Hagiwara (who met the three members of milestone (Nishioka, Yoshida, and Haruka) on #WednesdayBudouzakaRen) listens to and delves into the stories of these three members.

Nishioka (hereinafter, Nishi): Hello everyone!

Yoshida (hereinafter Yoshi): Hello everyone!

Omori (hereinafter Haruka): Hello everyone!

Nishi, Yoshi, Haruka: It's a milestone for all three of us!!!

Hagiwara (hereinafter, Hagi): Thank you for being in good spirits today (laughs). I look forward to working with you again this month.

・Signature items

Nishi: July is a bumper month. By coincidence, many items are being released at the same time. First, let me introduce our canvas T-shirt. This design is very symbolic for the brand.

Yoshi: It's a signature item.

Haruka: I think it's the familiar design with "LIGHTING YOUR WAY" written in big letters.

Nishi: Our designer K designed it, and in the past we used BRING's body. Now we're using our own original fabric and pattern for the "Canvas T" body. This time, black is appearing for the first time. Coincidentally, all three of us are wearing Canvas T-shirts right now, so how does it feel?

Yoshi: It's great for everyday wear. You can even wear it for jogging around the neighborhood. Of course, some people wear it for races too.

Haruka: A lot of people wore our clothes at the Okushinano 100 in the second week of June. We had Jerry Marquez designs and things like that.

Hagi: You can wear it as everyday clothing and run in it, so it's a T-shirt that can connect running with your everyday life. And the black color seems easy to use.

Nishi: Please note that this will be sold exclusively through the official online store and milestone TERADACHO .

・New needs for hats

Yoshi: Next up, the cap. Haruka will explain this.

Haruka: Actually, I've been wearing milestone caps before, but they were a little big.

Nishi: Because my head is small.

Haruka: My head circumference is 54cm. Milestone hats start at 56.5cm, so I used to fasten them with a safety pin. So I made a smaller size model that could be worn by people with small heads like me.

Yoshi: 54cm is the standard size for a child around 4 years old.

Haruka: This MSC-024 model is compatible with sizes from 52.5cm to 57.5cm. The theme is forest and sea. I imagined a child running energetically with the scenery they see when running through the town they live in as a backdrop. The color names are Forest and Marine.

Nishi: I knew that Haruka had been using her ingenuity to wear our hats, so I asked her to try it on her first day at work. The color was also decided to a certain extent by me choosing it.

Hagi: Is this a color that hasn't been seen before?

Nishi: We haven't used green mesh before, and the logo is an embroidered version, so it's different from the MSC-013 which uses a woven name tag.

Yoshi: It's a color scheme that Nishioka wouldn't have chosen. On the contrary, it's not too quirky and I think it will sell.

Nishi: I think it would be good. I hope they release a Haruka color. With Haruka on board, we discovered a need for smaller sized hats. We'll start with two colors, but we'll see how it goes, and if the response is good, we'll make more colors.

Haruka: I'd be happy if parents and children could wear them together.

・New model that can run

Yoshi: And we have one more hat. The MSC-022, aimed at hikers, has been very well received. Of course, runners also wear it. It's the successor to the MSC-016, but the back strap is made of rubber for a snug fit, and it follows the "choboless" design of the 022, which makes it easy to put on a helmet over it. We used mesh to make it even easier for runners to wear. The colors are chosen by Nishioka. If I decide on the color of the cap, it really doesn't sell (laughs) and it gets discontinued right away.

Nishi: Honestly (laughs). It's not because they don't sell, but because the fabric has been discontinued and is no longer in production. It's frustrating that we can't continue like that.

Yoshi: Nishioka-san specified that the side mesh be unified in gray. The embroidered logo was also in the same color as much as possible so that it wouldn't stand out too much.

Haruka: What was the name of the color again?

Nishi: There are four colors: clover, mustard, indigo, and brick. Caps are our main business, so we put a lot of effort into them.

Hagi: (bitter smile)

・Things you definitely need

Yoshi: After the cap, next is the cup.

Nishi: Just to let you know, the English word for cup is "CUP." The "U" sounds like the sound you make when you get punched in the stomach, so CAP and CUP are different things (laughs).

Hagi: That's another story that can't be conveyed in words (laughs).

Nishi: When I'm racing, I often think, "I wish I had something like that." I think there must be a need for essential racing gear. You often wear race belts, don't you?

Haruka: It's nice to see you at a tournament.

Nishi: I can feel the love when Kawasaki Yuya wears his race belt even during daytime races when he doesn't need to use his headlamp.

Nishi: When I was running the Okushinano 100, a portable cup was a must-have item, so I came up with the idea to make this. I thought that if I put "LIGHTING YOUR WAY" on it, it would balance well with the size of the cup, so I asked designer K-kun about it as soon as I got home.

Yoshi: This soft cup will also be sold exclusively at the official online store and the concept store milestone TERADACHO .

West: The color is Kabosu green.

Yoshi: Two colors, blackberry.

Yoshi: It has a capacity of 200ml and can withstand temperatures up to 60°C. It's good enough for miso soup.

Haruka: Plus, it comes with a carabiner.

Nishi: Yes. It will be available in limited quantities soon.

Nishi: I'd like to continue making these kinds of essential racing items, like headlamps.

Hagi: (wry smile) That's the part I should point out. I also ignored the part about "being a captain" earlier (laughs).

Yoshi: (laughs) Speaking of which, you don't make rear recognition lights, do you? We're a lighting manufacturer that's been in business for over 100 years, so we're often asked, "Why don't you make one?" So, could you please explain that to us, Nishioka-san?

Nishi: That's it. In reality, they're sold on Amazon, in 100 yen shops, and in many other places. Even if we sell them at a reasonable price, the question is who will actually buy them. If you're okay with cheap but shoddy products, you can just put your logo on anything you find and sell it, but then it becomes just a novelty item.

Yoshi: Your main business is a light manufacturer, so you're probably wondering whether it's a good idea to do that as a product. But even if the red light is much more beautiful than other companies' products, that doesn't mean that customers will be happy with it.

Nishi: That's right. Do you play whistles or anything?

Haruka: What about Bear Bell?

Nishi: We're always looking for new items, so if there's anything you want, please let us know.

Hagi: Weren't there any headlights that flash red?

Nishi: There is MS-G2.

Yoshi: By the way, I used the G2 as a rear light at Mt.FUJI 100, but the battery ran out on the second night, so I brought two (laughs).

・Cool long pants

Nishi: There's more. We'll be releasing long pants. Natty Long Pants PLUS.

Yoshi: The fabric has changed.

Haruka: It's made of the same smooth fabric as Natty Shorts 5_inch PLUS.

Yoshi: It would have been fine to use the same color as the shorts, but I decided to go with all new colors. The mustard color is a bit too bold when it comes to long pants, so I chose the colors I wanted for the long pants. The fabric for the Natty Series 2.0 is no longer in production. I can't use that fabric for either the shorts or the long pants, so I can't make either, and they'll be sold out when the stock runs out. Most of the sizes are gone now, though. I didn't change the shape, just the fabric.

Nishi: We changed the color of the logo to match the color of the pants. The fabric is really good. I think you can feel how well the shorts wick away sweat.

Hagi: If the 1.0 long pants are for winter, then these are for summer. Even if I run in shorts in the middle of summer, I want to wear cool long pants when riding the train or traveling, so they will be very useful. I already have them, but the different fabric will probably change the way I use them.

Yoshi: The 2.0 was popular in antelope gray, so we have gray as a replacement.

Haruka: There are three colors: coconut brown, olive green, and stone gray.

Yoshi: When we announced the release to the shop staff, they said that gray was a nice color.

Hagi: Gray goes well with tops and other colorful items, or even with monochrome outfits, so it's easy to use.

・Aloha shirts to wear in the mountains

Nishi: And finally, we have a special item. It's a collaboration between milesotone and maunawear, an aloha shirt you can wear in the mountains. We gave a brief introduction to it in last month's "Oshi! Mai," but you can also find more details about maunawear on our blog. In order to create this item, we interviewed them again, and they incorporated previous milestone items into the shirt's pattern.

Yoshi: The overall design has a Polynesian feel. It is dotted with motifs ranging from the carbide lamps that were made when the company was founded, to the Trailmaster, the MS-i1, the logo, "LIGHTING YOUR WAY," caps, beer, and many more.

Haruka: Each pattern has a meaning, so it's fun to try to figure out what the pattern is.

Nishi: Making a shirt isn't just about sewing the parts together; it takes an enormous amount of time to cut the printed fabric, serger it, and do all the pre-processing beforehand. When I saw the production site, I realized it was a really detailed and difficult process. It's all done by one person, from the drawing of the pattern, of course.

Yoshi: They said that they can only make about one long-sleeved uniform per day. They search for a variety of buttons and change them to match the pattern. First, they will be unveiling it at OMM BIKE as the team milestone uniform.

Haruka: We will also be holding a pop-up order event on our next business day, Sunday, August 24th. The milestone collaboration pattern is limited to 10 pieces.

Nishi: If there are more than 10 applicants at the opening stage, we will hold a lottery.

Haruka: There are five sizes to choose from: XS, S, M, L, and XL, as well as short-sleeved and long-sleeved. The fabric is 100% polyester called Shamiran, made by Toray. This is an order event, so you can choose the pattern and size and the product will be delivered at a later date.

Nishi: It seems they will also be preparing more than 10 other new designs. I'm looking forward to seeing what patterns they will have.

Haruka: The patterns are based on motifs found in the mountains, including flowers, plants, and activities.

Hagi: There are so many different types, so it's hard to find someone else with the same thing. By the way, "mauna" apparently means mountain in Hawaiian.

・Speaking of "81"

Haruka: By the way, do you know what day August 1st is?

Hagi: Speaking of "8" and "1", maybe...

Nishi: That's right. It's a milestone day .

Nishi: To celebrate milestone day, for seven days from August 1st to 7th before Obon, we will be giving away a multi-container to anyone who spends over 20,000 yen at milestone TERADACHO or online .

Haruka: What color and size will it be?

Yoshi: It's random (laughs).

Nishi: I hope you enjoy it (laughs). Well, that's all for this month, goodbye.

Yoshi: Goodbye.

Haruka/Hagi: Goodbye.

This time, I learned about many new items. I got a glimpse of how something that is felt to be necessary is created through trail running and mountain activities.

Whether it's trail running or hiking, playing in nature always involves risk. That's why they say "mountains are at your own risk," and there's something fun about planning your own itinerary, preparing for it, and then carrying it out. I think this DIY spirit is what makes playing in the mountains so fun.

I can sense this same spirit in maunawear. Do you really need patterned shirts for the mountains? If you think about functionality alone, plain ones might be fine. But that's not enough and it's boring. It's important to wear things that you want to wear and that make you feel good when you wear them. That's why I'm captivated by the vitality of making your own shirts.

What will be born next? We will be keeping an eye on milestone and maunawear.
